Ce livre commence au seuil de l’an 2000. Le célèbre écrivain, prix Nobel de littérature, Albert Camus, débarque à Mykonos dans les Cyclades et retrouve la Méditerranée qu'il a tant aimée. Mais l’époque n’est plus la même. Il est accompagné d’une jeune journaliste, Ariane Dariva, qui y voit l’opportunité pour l'écrivain d'achever son roman Le Premier homme.
Sous un soleil implacable, dans une ambiance dionysiaque, Camus tente de réconcilier les souvenirs de sa vie passée avec un présent qui ne le concerne plus. Parmi ceux qui l’accueillent, Ariane cherche le mythe ; un scientifique hérétique tente de justifier son regard sur le monde ; un écrivain raté est en quête d’inspiration. Tous aspirent à l'accomplissement.
Cet été grec n'est pas seulement un pari sur le temps perdu. C'est un voyage vers les Cyclades et la lumière, réconciliant la vie et la mort. Un roman léger, joyeux, irrévérencieux sur l'adolescence éternelle, les femmes, la littérature, la philosophie et les aspirations de chacun.

L’auteur
Dimitris Stefanakis est né à Kéa, une île des Cyclades en Grèce, en 1961. Après des études de droit à l'Université d'Athènes, il devient traducteur littéraire (John Updike, Magaret Atwood, E.M. Forster, Joseph Brontski ou encore Prosper Mérimée) avant de publier en 2000 son premier roman. Auteur de cinq livres acclamés dans son pays, c’est avec Jours d’Alexandrie (éd. Vivianne Hamy, 2011), qu’il s’est fait connaître en France, où il a reçu le prix Méditerranée étranger 2011. 

Le mot de l’auteur Dimitris Stefanàkis : 
C’est à l’âge de dix-sept ans que j’ai lu L’étranger pour la première fois, et j’ose dire que ce fut une vraie apocalypse. Ce mélange de philosophie et de morale dans un style presque télégraphique a suscité en moi une émotion profonde. Puis, j’ai relu plusieurs fois ce roman, ainsi que toute son œuvre. Dès lors, Albert Camus est devenu mon maître, mon ami, une source d’inspiration. Quand, en 1994, est paru Le Premier homme, texte inachevé qui parle de son enfance sous le soleil de la Méditerranée, cela m’a donné une idée. Et si je le faisais revenir dans le monde des vivants, ne serait-ce que dans les pages d’un livre, peut-être pourrait-il terminer ce roman ? C’est ainsi que Camus est devenu le héros de mon roman, voyagant à travers le temps et débarquant en plein dans notre époque. Dans Un été grec avec Camus, l’auteur du Premier Homme et moi partageons la même passion pour le soleil, la littérature et la Méditerranée grâce à la générosité du temps tout-puissant. 

Στα δεκαεπτά μου διάβασα για πρώτη φορά τον «Ξένο». Αυτό το μείγμα φιλοσοφίας και ηθικής γραμμένο σε ένα στυλ sec και υπαινικτικό, σχεδόν τηλεγραφικό με συγκίνησε βαθιά. Στη συνέχεια διάβασα πολλές φορές το μυθιστόρημα του Αλμπέρ Καμύ όπως και το υπόλοιπο έργο του. Κάπως έτσι ο Καμύ έγινε ο δάσκαλος, ο φίλος, μια έμπνευση διαρκής. Χάρη σ' αυτόν γνώρισα τη λογοτεχνία που στοχάζεται με τρόπο διακριτικό και υπαινικτικό. Και ξαφνικά το 1994, η έκδοση ενός άγνωστου έργου του, ενός ημιτελούς μυθιστορήματος που μιλούσε για τη φτώχεια ενός παιδιού κάτω από τον συμπονετικό ήλιο της Μεσογείου μου έδωσε μια ιδέα...

The book
This book begins on the threshold of the year 2000. The famous writer, Nobel Prize winner for literature, Albert Camus, arrives in Mykonos in the Cyclades and returns to the Mediterranean that he loved so much. But the times are no longer the same. He is accompanied by a young journalist, Ariane Dariva, who sees it as an opportunity for the writer to complete his novel The First Man.
Under a relentless sun, in a Dionysian atmosphere, Camus attempts to reconcile the memories of his past life with a present that no longer concerns him. Among those who welcome her, Ariane searches for the myth ; a heretical scientist tries to justify his view of the world ; a failed writer is looking for inspiration. Everyone strives for achievement.
This Greek summer is not just a bet on wasted time. It is a journey towards the Cyclades and the light, reconciling life and death. A light, joyful, irreverent novel about eternal adolescence, women, literature, philosophy and the aspirations of each person.

The author
Dimitris Stefanakis was born in Kea, a Cyclades island in Greece, in 1961. After studying law at the University of Athens, he became a literary translator (John Updike, Magaret Atwood, EM Forster, Joseph Brontski or again Prosper Mérimée) before publishing his first novel in 2000. Author of five acclaimed books in his country, it was with Jours d'Alexandrie (ed. Vivianne Hamy, 2011) that he became known in France, where he received the 2011 Mediterranean Foreign Prize. 

A word from the author: 
It was at the age of seventeen that I read The Stranger for the first time, and I dare say that it was a real apocalypse. This mixture of philosophy and morality in an almost telegraphic style aroused deep emotion in me. Then, I reread this novel several times, as well as all of his work. From then on, Albert Camus became my teacher, my friend, a source of inspiration. When, in 1994, The First Man was published, an unfinished text which talks about his childhood under the Mediterranean sun, it gave me an idea. What if I brought him back to the world of the living, even if only in the pages of a book, maybe he could finish this novel ? This is how Camus became the hero of my novel, traveling through time and landing right in our era. In A Greek Summer with Camus, the author of The First Man and I share the same passion for the sun, literature and the Mediterranean thanks to the generosity of almighty weather.
